Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is one of the most anticipated fashion events on the social calendar for the year. It is one of the first major events to get you out of your trackies, off the couch and out around Melbourne to make sure your wardrobe is ready for all events that start popping up as Melbourne gets (hopefully) warmer.
Whether you consider yourself to be one of Australia’s fashion trend-setters or you’re keeping an eye out for your next wardrobe investment, you will find something to suit your style at MSFW. The Opening Gala is a must—see event that showcases some of the most stylish garments to walk the runway and is being held on Tuesday 30th August. The show will feature designs from Aurelio Costarella, Bianca Spender, Carla Zampatti, CHRISTAHLEA, Gwendolynne, JASONGRECH, OneDay, Rachel Gilbert and Thurley.
The Emerging Collective Runway (Sunday 28th August 5-6pm) is one event I am really looking forward to as it will showcase the next generation of designers from Box Hill Institute, FashionMasters, Holmesglen Institute, Kangan Institute and Whitehouse Institute of Design who you are bound to fall in love with. Buying from these students’ collections will not only support their future careers but could potentially help you avoid being at an event wearing the same outfit as someone else – it’s a win for everyone.
If you’re already planning the perfect race day outfit from head-to-toe then keep an eye out for the Spring Carnival (Thursday 1st September 6:30 – 7:15pm) and David Jones (Monday 29th August12:30 – 1pm & 1:30 – 2pm) Runways, which are guaranteed to inspire you ahead of the spring racing carnival.
For the male fashionmisters of Melbourne – have no fear, you have not been forgotten! Jack London (Wednesday 31st August 6:30 – 7pm) are set to blow your mind with clothing inspired by the British and European Mod Rocker scene of the 1960’s. If you’re looking for a more classic but still bold look then head to the Peter Jackson Runway (Thursday 1st September 5:30 – 6pm) where you will see an eclectic range of patterns and colours that will help you stand out at events this spring and summer.
These are just a handful of some of the amazing runways and events that are on so make sure you check out the full calendar events, which includes free runways and activities. And if all else fails you can always hang out at the MSFW Hub located at City Square, which will be open from Friday 26th August – Friday 2nd September. Not only is it a stunning venue to enjoy a knock off beverage with your friends but there will be plenty on offer from runways, workshops and interactive experiences with some of your favourite brands.
I am hosting one of the free hair and make-up workshops on Monday 29th August, presented by artists from KEVIN.MURPHY and Mecca where you will learn new techniques as well as the secrets behind this season’s signature looks. The workshop is at the MSFW Hub from 6:30 – 7pm, so let’s take some selfies together after I’ve had my hair and make-up done by the pros!
Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is brought to you by the City of Melbourne.
